Inclement Weather

AIR QUALITY

Listed below are air quality guidelines from the Utah Department of Health “Recess Guidance for Schools."

• When the Particulate Matter (PM2.5) level is between 35.5 and 55.4 that "sensitive students" should be accommodated to avoid outdoor recess.
• When the PM2.5 level is between 55.5 and 90, "sensitive" students and those students experiencing respiratory symptoms should avoid outdoor recess.
• When the PM2.5 level is 90 or higher, recess should be moved indoors for all students.
• At any time, you can refer to airquality.utah.gov, under current conditions, to review the current PM2.5.
• Please note that schools do not determine which students are considered sensitive. Parents need to communicate to schools that they would like their child kept indoors. However, teachers will use their best judgment if a student is asking to stay indoors.
• Please follow the guidelines issued by the UDH related to PM2.5 along with the red, yellow, and green codes that are communicated to the public. A “red day” does not necessarily indicate inside recess for all students.

TEMPERATURE

• Students will be allowed to play outdoors until the temperature reaches 20°. Other factors will be considered when determining safe temperatures Wind chill and student appropriate dress are some of the factors considered.

RAIN/SNOW/WIND

• Rain, lightning, wind, and other inclement weather will be considered when not allowing students to play outdoors. Snow fall will be considered safe as long as other factors such temperature, accumulation, and ice do not infract safety.
